If wildlife conservation campaigns suit cat owners then they just might work

Embargoed until: Publicly released:

Hunting cats can have a detrimental effect on birds and other wildlife, which we all know can lead to tension among cat owners and conservationists. Surveys by cat owners and vets in New Zealand vet clinics found bringing cats in from dusk till dawn was the most favourable tactic to cat owners for reducing predation and still had a positive effect on conservation. The authors say while 24‐hr cat confinement would bring greater benefits for wildlife, they were unlikely to appeal to cat owners and vets, whose support may be critical to a conservation campaign.
