*BRIEFING RECORDING AVAILABLE* There has been growing interest in nuclear energy as a potential low-emissions energy technology for Australia, and debate about the possible introduction of nuclear power to Australia, starting with small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs). A new report from the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) has found SMR technology could be an option to contribute zero-emissions electricity beyond 2040 alongside a clean energy network, but is unlikely to contribute significantly in the short to medium term.
