The loss of biodiversity is among the most serious threats to business, and businesses can either lead the way or ultimately risk extinction…both of species in nature, but potentially also their own, according to the authors of a new global report from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), often called the “IPCC for biodiversity”. The report warns that every business depends on biodiversity, but that the growth of the global economy has been at the cost of immense biodiversity loss, which now poses a critical and pervasive systemic risk to the economy, financial stability and human wellbeing.
