Women who do less physical activity over the long term are at higher risk of falls in older age, according to Australian research. The study used data from the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health (ALSWH), the largest, longest-running project of its kind in Australia, which has been collecting data on women's health since 1996. The researchers found that having consistently lower levels of physical activity over the study period was linked to a higher risk of falls at ages 68–73. The researchers say this underscores the urgent need for a lifelong commitment to physical activity participation, with at least 150 min/week, as recommended by the World Health Organisation.
