About The Study: In this 12-week randomized clinical trial, varenicline, combined with behavioral counseling, increased vaping abstinence in youth who vape nicotine and do not regularly smoke tobacco.
Varenicline, a medication often used to help people quit smoking, can help teens and young adults quit vaping, according to an international study. The study split 261 vapers aged 16-25 into three groups; all groups received text message support to quit vaping, a third received varenicline and counselling and a third received placebo pills and counselling over 12 weeks. The researchers say 51% of the varenicline group weren't vaping at 12 weeks compared to 14% in the placebo group, and the varenicline group continued to have higher rates of abstinence after 24 weeks.
