Between 2008 and 2019, 281,650 people in the US aged 18-34 were surveyed on their use of marijuana, alcohol and tobacco, and whether they had experienced suicidal thoughts, planned or attempted suicide over the past year. Over the time period, marijuana use increased for every demographic except current high school students. Suicidal thoughts, plans and attempts were associated with cannabis use disorder, daily and non-daily cannabis use, more significantly in women.
