While weight is a known risk factor for severe COVID-19 symptoms during the infection, international researchers say it also impacts the risk of Long COVID symptoms in children. The team collected US hospital data for children aged 5-20, and compared the most recent available BMI data with diagnoses of post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC). The researchers say that compared to children with a healthy weight, children in the obese classification had a 25.4% increased risk of a long COVID diagnosis, and those with severe obesity had a 42.1% increased risk.
