Peer-reviewed: This work was reviewed and scrutinised by relevant independent experts.

Observational study: A study in which the subject is observed to see if there is a relationship between two or more things (eg: the consumption of diet drinks and obesity). Observational studies cannot prove that one thing causes another, only that they are linked.

People: This is a study based on research using people.

Two studies looking at cases of myocarditis following vaccination with the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine have confirmed that young men are at the highest risk. One study found there were around 2.13 cases of myocarditis per 100,000 people, but in young men aged 16 to 29, the risk was 10.69 cases per 100,000 people. The second study confirmed that the incidence of myocarditis, although low, increased after the receipt of the Pfizer vaccine. It found that the risk was higher after the second dose especially among young male recipients. Both studies also confirmed that most cases of myocarditis were mild or moderate in severity.
