Vaping could be just as likely to be a smoking gateway as a quitting tool

Vaping has been touted as a way to help people give up their smokes, but New Zealand research suggests the door swings both ways. Kiwis who participated in the Attitudes and Values study and either smoked or vaped in 2018, were just as likely to have changed to, or taken up, the other behaviour by 2020. The researchers say their study was limited to the data collected in the survey, meaning their observation may not apply to young people (due to middle-aged people being over-represented), and they also had no data on how heavily or frequently people smoked or vaped.
