An international team of researchers say glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) - the type of diabetes/weight loss drugs that include Ozempic and Wegovy - are more effective in women than men. The team reviewed 41 past papers that included 64 clinical trials, and say that while the drugs worked better for weight loss in women, there was no other difference for age, race, ethnicity and starting body mass.

Heterogeneity of Treatment Effects of GLP-1 RAs for Weight Loss in Adults

About The Study: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) produced greater weight loss among women than men; however, their efficacy was consistent across other important subpopulations. These findings may inform clinical decision-making.
