Supermarket customers are more likely to buy wholesome foods when they can smell herbs, a new study shows. The AUT researchers set up a machine that spread the scent of thyme, rosemary, oregano, and basil in one section of an Auckland supermarket. They say these scents triggered memories of cozy home-cooked meals, encouraging shoppers to choose foods like fresh vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.
