Researchers have found New Zealanders’ least healthy food shopping is done at bakeries and convenience stores, while the healthiest is done at fruit and veg stores. The study authors looked at food shopping by 1,800 Kiwi homes over the course of a year, and found that the average Health Star Rating of the more than three million food items bought was 3.5 (out of five). The researchers say that 90 per cent of foods are purchased from supermarkets, so we also need to look at how to make food healthier in supermarkets.
