Spellcheck that CV! Too many typos may cut your interview chances by nearly 1/5

If your resume is packed with spelling mistakes, your chances of landing an interview drop by 18.5%, and too many errors may make potential employers think you're a bit dim, socially inept, and slapdash, according to Belgian researchers. They asked 445 recruiters to survey fictional resumes, some of which contained typos, and others that were perfect. They found the most typo-ridden resumes were 18.5% less likely to land their author an interview than error-free examples, while those with fewer errors were 7.3% less likely to go to interview than those without mistakes. In addition, recruiters perceived the authors of error-strewn CVs to have lower interpersonal skills, conscientiousness and mental abilities than those who made no mistakes.
