Latest in sustainability science featured at Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress 2021 in Brisbane

Over 1500 experts will gather at the inaugural Sustainability Research & Innovation Congress 2021 from June 13-15 to share the latest science and innovations to tackle our most pressing sustainability challenges. The event will take place in Brisbane and online.

Global experts and leaders from across disciplines, industries and sectors will gather at the Sustainability Research & Innovation Congress 2021 (SRI2021) to share the latest in sustainability science and innovation to tackle the world’s most pressing sustainability challenges.

The event will take place both online and onsite at the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention Centre, Brisbane, Australia from June 13-15 and will feature 100+ sessions including scientific presentations, panel discussions, workshops and social events.

Sustainability research is growing at twice the rate of science in general and progress is needed more than ever as the world grapples with increasing natural disasters, biodiversity loss, environmental destruction, climate change and human health crises.

SRI2021 will bring together over 1500 participants providing a unique opportunity to not only share knowledge but for expert participants to create new plans and strategies to advance sustainability pathways.

The congress will be opened by:

  • Dr. Paul Bertsch, Director of Land and Water, CSIRO
  • Dr. Tayanah O’Donnell, Director, Future Earth Australia (Australian Academy of Science)
  • Dr. Erica Key, Executive Director, Belmont Forum
  • Dr. Joshua Tewksbury, Interim Executive Director, Future Earth

Plenary speakers include:

  • Ms. Sharan Burrow, General Secretary, International Trade Union Confederation
  • Dr. Meg Parsons, climate change adaptation specialist and IPCC author, University of Auckland
  • Mr. Joshua Gilbert, Australian Indigenous agriculturalist and innovator

SRI2021 will cover themes including disaster and risk, climate adaptation, biodiversity, water and oceans, planetary health, Indigenous knowledge and much more.

Australia was chosen as the host country for the event in recognition of its mix of world-class sustainability scholarship, green innovation, cross-sectoral engagement and inclusive dialogue.
