More resources are needed to treat Kiwi teens and young adults with diabetes, according to new research. Two researchers surveyed diabetes specialists across the country, finding that only 60 per cent of DHBs had dedicated teams for diabetic patients between the ages of 15 to 25. The authors say diabetes is increasingly common among teens and young adults in NZ, and it's also more difficult to control blood sugar at this age because of the impacts of puberty. They call for urgent resourcing to care for these patients.
