Immunity to COVID-19 can last at least five months after infection but varies among those infected, according to an Italian study. Researchers studied the immune responses of an Italian football club five months after a COVID-19 cluster spread among players and staff. Of the 30 participants previously exposed to COVID-19, four in five still appeared to have a strong immune response to the virus. One in five of that group had a weak immune response that was still different to the 14 participants who had not been infected. Stronger symptoms during COVID-19 appeared to be associated with a greater immune response down the track, with three in four of the cohort with a strong immune response having experienced symptoms during their infection, compared to just one in three of those with a weak immune response.
