A small study has found that the combination of exercise and an Ozempic-like drug, known as liraglutide, helps people shift more weight than either alone while maintaining bone density. A major concern with weight loss is the bone loss that can occur at the same time, and whether these new weight-loss drugs impact bone health is still largely unknown. The researchers compared a placebo with exercise alone, liraglutide alone, or the combination of the two, and found that the combination helped people lose the most weight while maintaining their bone density. The group who took liraglutide alone showed some bone density loss compared with placebo or exercise alone. The researchers say the findings highlight the importance of combining exercise with these new weight-loss drugs for bone health.
