Aussie researchers have tried to put a price tag on alcohol-related assaults in central Sydney, and say each attack may cost as much as $85,093. To calculate the cost, the researchers took into account health-related costs, which account for around two-thirds of the total, and justice-related costs, which account for the other third. However, health service-related costs accounted for just 1.3 per cent of the total, and their estimate includes additional health-related costs, including ‘pain, suffering, morbidity and wellbeing’.
