Atopic dermatitis, or eczema, is associated with poorer mental health in children from a young age according to international research. A study following about 11,000 participants through childhood looked at scores from both participant questionnaires and parent reporting on mental health to see if there was an association with eczema. The researchers say children with severe eczema were more likely to have depression, and those with even mild to moderate eczema were more likely to show 'internalising symptoms' from a young age, which are signs of anxiety and depression.
