A small study has canvassed the views of Māori organisations in Taranaki on their preparedness for the pandemic and the types of support provided. All but one had a response plan in place before the pandemic. Themes included the key role of relationships and mātauranga (indigenous knowledge), the agility of Māori organisations, and the use of Māori-led support for isolated or marginalised people. Support included a traffic-light system to assess need, kai parcels, care packages and pop-up clinics.
