The use of two online mental health programs - This Way Up in Australia and Just a Thought in New Zealand - skyrocketed in the first few months of the pandemic. In the 3 months prior to the pandemic, 2,800 people registered for a This Way Up course and 1,900 people registered for a Just a Thought course, whereas those numbers jumped to 21,800 and 5,400 respectively during the first 3 months of the COVID pandemic. The researchers say it reflects how nimble and adaptable online mental health courses can be, particularly when there is high demand and limited access to therapists.
