Eczema diagnosis and severity are linked to the amount of salt in your diet, according to international research. Measuring the amount of sodium in urine samples of over 220,000 people in the UK, the team investigated whether a higher sodium level was linked with a higher risk of eczema. They say excreting 1g more sodium per day was associated with 11% higher odds of having been diagnosed with eczema, 16% higher odds of the eczema being active, and 11% higher odds of more severe eczema. The researchers say taking just one urine sample from their participants meant their results did have some limitations, but there is still a lot we don't know about what drives eczema, so these results may contribute to a better understanding of how diet influences the skin condition.
