Getting the Pfizer or Moderna Covid vaccine in 2021 did not increase overall risk of death in the next four years compared to unvaccinated people, according to a nationwide study of 28 million people in France. Vaccinated people had a 75% lower risk of dying from severe Covid, and they also had a 25% lower risk of death from any cause. This remained consistent even when researchers accounted for factors like age, wealth and health conditions, but they speculated that there could be other factors they hadn’t measured. The authors said that this is the first study to look at long-term risk of death after Covid vaccination, to their knowledge, and that the results suggest that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are safe long-term.
