A significant drop in COVID-19 cases in Israel early this year was strongly influenced by the rollout of the Pfizer vaccine, according to Israeli researchers. By the end of February 2021, 85 per cent of people over 60 years old had received two doses of the vaccine, coinciding with a 77 per cent drop in cases and 68 per cent drop in hospitalisations from the peak of the virus in the country. Examining health data, the researchers found age groups prioritised for vaccination saw a greater decrease in COVID-19 cases and hospitalisations.
