US researchers testing the effects of music advertised to support 'workflow' and 'deep focus' suggest that what we listen to might actually help us improve our mood and work performance. The team tested these types of music up against pop music or background office noise in a brain-power demanding psychological test. Despite similar marketing on other music or background noise generators, the team say only the workflow music had significant positive impacts on the test.
