A US and Spanish analysis of a mixed-gender shooting competition held during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, which included 177 male and 178 female shooters, found women performed just as well as men when targets were stationary. However, men had the edge over women when it came to hitting a moving target. The findings suggest mixed-gender sporting events can be a fair competition, the authors say, and they encourage the inclusion of 'gender unified' events for the 'static' rifle shooting competitions at future Olympics.
