The team looked at data from 24 reviews and found consistent evidence of worse mental health and neurodevelopmental outcomes in trans and nonbinary people – including that half of trans and nonbinary people experience suicidal ideation, and nearly a third will make at least one suicide attempt. They also found substantial gaps and weaknesses in the methods used in the studies, and added that more research is urgently needed to further understand and acknowledge these marginalised communities, especially the role of cultural, religious and legal contexts.
