Smoking reached its lowest popularity in 2025, according to the latest statistics on tobacco, e-cigarette and other nicotine product usage from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. The AIHW has released the latest results from their National Drug Strategy Household Survey, which included 17,500 over-14s in the second half of 2025. They say 5.6% of Aussies aged 14% smoked daily in 2025, down from 8.3% in 2022-2023 and the lowest rate since the survey began. Vaping rates appear to have stabilised after a sharp rise in recent years, the AIHW says, with daily use at 3.6% in 2025, up just 0.1% from 2022-2023.
