New modelling research suggests that making vapes pharmacy-only or prescription-only could lead to a modest reduction in preventable deaths and illness from smoking. The mathematical models showed that even though the policy shift could result in a short-term smoking bump, it was outweighed by a long-term smoking drop due to fewer people using vaping as a gateway.
