An Italian 'gold standard' clinical trial of probiotics in kids with upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) found the treatment shortened the duration of fever by two days. The team tested probiotics in 128 children with URTIs, around half of whom received them while the other half received a non-active 'placebo' treatment. They found no safety concerns with the probiotic mixture used, and conclude that probiotics are an effective way of shortening fever symptoms in kids with URTIs.
