Māori more likely to die from COVID-19

A coronavirus infection is 50 per cent more likely to be fatal for Māori people than non-Māori, a new study shows. The researchers combined health data on ethnic groups in New Zealand with international COVID-19 data to get the results, which were similar for Pacific populations. They say their estimate is conservative, and the rate could be higher depending on how much underlying health conditions also contribute to COVID-19 deaths.
