In a study funded by a company that makes an app to limit kids' screentime, US researchers say a majority of kids with access to smartphones during the school day are spending around an hour each day on them, and most of that time is spent on social media. The team found 61% of the user-days analysed - how many days the kids were at school and had access to a smartphone - for kids aged 10-13 years had at least some activity during school, and 86% of the user-days for kids aged 14-17 years. The authors say that the overall time the kids were on their phones is now lower than previously reported, which they suggest may relate to the fact that 94% of the users they observed had limits and/or an app that restricts their devices.
