Kauri rings may record a changing climate

Trace elements in tree rings can help scientists understand changes in the atmosphere and environment of the past. Researchers looked at whether this technique could be used on kauri trees. They found that while there was significant variation at some sites, other trees were able to record long-term trends in environmental conditions, such as climate change and human effects on soil.
