In a trial on scar care, US researchers say patients who used hydrocolloid dressings - a material that can be used in dressings to create a moist, protective healing environment - on their wounds reported slightly higher ratings for overall scar appearance when compared against people using petroleum ointment. While the hydrocolloid dressing fared better over the first week, the researchers say this balanced out at the one and two month periods. The team say that hydrocolloid dressings could be a good alternative to people having to rub ointment on their wounds daily.
