A US survey suggests that close to 5% of us are consuming products that are potentially toxic to our livers. They say that, from their survey of close to 10,000 people in the US, almost 5% reported consuming either turmeric, green tea, ashwagandha, Garcinia cambogia, red yeast rice, and black cohosh products. The people who used these botanical products tended to be significantly older, better educated and more likely to have arthritis than other users, say the researchers, who add that clinicians should be aware of the possible issues that could arise from these mostly unregulated products.
