Goodnight Kiwi? Noisy neighbours ruffle feathers
Peer-reviewed: This work was reviewed and scrutinised by relevant independent experts.
Phones ringing, people tapping on glass, and heavy rain through the ceiling are some of the sounds disrupting kiwi in captivity across New Zealand. Researchers studied 15 of the iconic birds, finding a link between noise levels in their enclosure and how often they behaved abnormally. Only one enclosure had suitably soundproof windows, walls and ceiling, and within it was the only kiwi that showed no abnormal behaviour.
