Traumatic experiences in both childhood and adulthood are linked to endometriosis, according to international researchers who say this link appears to be independent of genetic factors. The researchers looked at the genetic profile of about 8,000 women with endometriosis and 240,000 women without the condition, and compared the traumatic events the women reported. They say the women with endometriosis were more likely to report both childhood and adulthood traumatic experiences and stressful events, and the link was strongest for physical and sexual abuse.
