Melatonin supplements, commonly used as sleeping aids, may improve your chances of maintaining your eyesight into older age according to international research. The researchers looked at health records for over 200,000 people who either had no history of age-related eyesight decline, or were at an early stage of decline. Comparing those who used melatonin supplements with those who didn't, the researchers say melatonin was linked with a lower risk of developing age-related eyesight deterioration among people with no decline, and a lower risk of further deterioration among those at an early stage of decline. The researchers say other lifestyle factors could have influenced their results, so more work should be done to confirm this link.
