Bicycle crashes due to suspected weaknesses in bicycles may be fairly common

Just over 1 in 10 bike riders surveyed report having a crash that they suspect was due to structural weakness in bicycles, according to Australian research. The survey of close to 300 bike riders found that while suspicions of structural weakness are fairly common, bicycle riders have limited awareness of how to test for weakness and do not consistently test when buying a used bicycle, or after a crash.
