Researchers have found that kindness towards robots is seen as praiseworthy by many, while cruelty towards them is seen as worthy of condemnation. They surveyed over 140 people's responses to stories about helping or harming robots, and found that people had balanced responses to both scenarios. The authors note limitations to their study, including that readers were not shown a specific robot, and people may have imagined different machines.
