As COVID-19 cases continue in Victoria and NSW, a lot has been said about genomic testing; including that it could link 99 per cent of Victoria's second wave of cases back to hotel quarantine. But how does it work, what can it tell us about different COVID-19 strains and how can it be used to control the pandemic in Australia?

  • Dr Rebecca Rockett is a virologist at the University of Sydney’s Marie Bashir Institute for Infectious Diseases and Biosecurity at Westmead Hospital. She is involved with genomic testing for NSW Health Pathology
  • Professor Catherine Bennett is Chair in Epidemiology at Deakin University in Victoria
