Aussie researchers asked women to report their past use of alcohol, tobacco, e-cigarettes, and illicit drugs, and found LGBTIQA+ women use both legal and illegal drugs more than their heterosexual counterparts. Additionally, among the participants who returned for follow-up surveys, the team found that these numbers remained stable, which they believe suggests that the legal and illegal consumption of drugs are established and socially embedded behaviours in the LGBTIQA+ community, and not necessarily a sign of problematic use.
