Apple watches have a feature that can monitor for chronic high blood pressure, and international researchers investigating its accuracy say it's great for 'ruling in' the problem, but not so much for ruling it out. The team tested the feature on nearly 4,000 people, and say it picked up undiagnosed high blood pressure in just over 40% of those who had it, so it misssed 60% of cases, and gave a false positive alert to just under 8% of those who didn't have undiagnosed high blood pressure. They say this means the feature may play a role in identifying some people who need to get their blood pressure checked by a professional, but it also carries the risk of lulling people into a false sense of security - the nearly 60% of people with chronic high blood pressure likely to be missed by the app.
