Biography
I am an epidemiologist and biostatistician specialising in sexually transmitted infections (STIs) at the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre, Bayside Health, and a Professor at the School of Translational Medicine, Monash University. My research focuses on improving the treatment, prevention, and control of STIs, with a particular emphasis on gonorrhoea and human papillomavirus (HPV).I have authored over 450 peer-reviewed publications, with more than 14,500 citations, an h-index of 60 (Google Scholar), and a field-weighted citation impact (FWCI) of 2.08, indicating my work is cited 108% more than the global average. I am ranked 2nd globally as the most active author in the field of STIs and recognised among the top 2% of highly cited scientists worldwide across 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields. In 2024, I was named Australia’s leading researcher in the field of Sex & Sexuality and was awarded the prestigious Gottschalk Medal by the Australian Academy of Science.
I currently serve as President of the International Society for Sexually Transmitted Diseases Research (ISSTDR) and as an Executive Board member of the Australasian Sexual and Reproductive Health Alliance (ASRHA).
