Biography

Erica is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney Medical School. She has a background in psychology and recently completed a PhD examining the construct of irritability in psychiatric disorders. She has a particular interest in the mechanisms that underlie psychiatric disorders, and how this understanding can be translated into clinical practice. In this regard, she has published research examining these phenomena and has synthesised these findings into bi-national clinical practice guidelines for Australia and New Zealand, as well as leading publications in the British Journal of Psychiatry and The Lancet. Her key areas of interest include mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorder), suicide, youth mental health (including the onset of psychiatric disorders), the role of sex and the menstrual cycle in women's mental health and how we can better diagnose and manage psychiatric disorders.
