Previous media experience
I have some existing media experience, including two live TV interviews on 9 News and Sky News where I provided expert commentary on bird flu outbreaks in Australia. I’ve also written two expert pieces for Scimex on bird flu and mRNA flu vaccines, taken part in more than five pre‑recorded radio interviews and over two live radio spots, contributed quotes to numerous written articles through phone interviews, and appeared on a podcast. I’m also very active in public engagement and science outreach, and I’m always keen for more opportunities to share immune system and influenza research with wider audiences.

Biography
Dr Emma Grant is a LIMS Bruce Stone Research Fellow and Group Leader at La Trobe University with more than a decade of experience studying how the immune system protects us from infections, with a particular focus on influenza and bird flu. She is an expert in how T cells respond to viruses and why some people get sicker than others. Emma's research team helps improve our understanding of how flu viruses evolve, how immunity develops after infection or vaccination, and what this means for future outbreaks. She collaborates with clinicians and research teams to translate laboratory findings into practical insights for public health. Emma has presented her research internationally and has received awards for scientific excellence. She is available for media commentary on influenza, bird flu, vaccines, infectious diseases, and general immune system science.Personal info
