It is not really clear how policies regulating the marketing of alcoholic beverages relate to low and zero-alcohol products in Australia, according to WA research. The researchers reviewed various federal, WA state and industry-developed codes of practice along with the ABAC Scheme for alcohol advertising to see how they could be applied to the growing market of zero-alcohol alternative beverages. The researchers say marketing for these products appears to be falling through the cracks of current alcohol policies, with zero-alcohol product marketing potentially able to benefit the promotion of alcohol products by the same companies. The researchers say marketing policies that specifically address these drinks are needed.
