Getting the seasonal influenza vaccine could reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events like heart attacks and stroke, according to an international meta-analysis. Researchers combined a previous meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials for the flu shot with another trial completed last year to update research on the topic, and they say across the studies, participants who had the flu shot had a 34 per cent lower risk of major cardiovascular events than placebo recipients. Among those deemed high risk due to an existing heart problem, they say the risk was 45 per cent lower for flu shot recipients.
