Worker fatigue a major contributor to NZ forestry accidents

Researchers have looked at eight years’ worth of accident data in New Zealand’s forestry industry. They found that 70 per cent of incidents can be attributed to worker failures - such as lack of concentration, poor technique, and poor evaluation of hazards - and that 78 per cent of of these incidents show signs of fatigue. The team says the results from this study will be used in a larger project on detecting fatigue in forestry workers to prevent future injuries and incidents.
