Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) don't have higher rates of abnormal ovarian cysts compared to the general population, according to Australian research, which supports a global process to change the condition’s name. The study of 1904 Finnish women found there was no increased prevalence of benign or pathological noncancerous ovarian cysts in women with PCOS. The authors say that given this, the diagnosis of PCOS can be based on physical findings and symptoms.
